Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
Information entered in a search tool, such as a name or case number, is sent to the outside provider operating that tool so it can process the request and return a result. Davidson County Court Docket does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you send an email, we retain the message in order to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page is requested, our systems may receive technical information associated with that visit, including:
- The IP address associated with the device
- The browser and version used for the request
- The device type and operating system
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- The date and time of each page request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device that help measure site use, including traffic patterns and page exits. Analytics providers may aggregate that activity for performance review. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some parts of the website function.
What We Do With This Data
Information collected through normal site operation may be used for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the website
- Routing a submitted search to the appropriate partner service
- Understanding page use and improving site performance
- Diagnosing technical problems and preventing disruption
- Delivering advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Davidson County Court Docket does not host, compile, sell, or maintain a database of court dockets or personal case information. It provides general direction about Davidson County records and the public sources that may display them. The statewide eCourts Portal provides public Case Summary or Register of Actions information where available, but Portal is not the official record. The Davidson Clerk of Superior Court keeps the consolidated Superior and District Court files and is the proper custodian for an official or certified case document.
North Carolina law gives the Clerk a docket and public-inspection role under G.S. 7A-109 and requires consolidated records across the trial divisions under G.S. 7A-180. We do not turn visitor information into consumer reports or third-party case files. The North Carolina Court of Appeals is the state’s intermediate appellate court; it is not a record system operated by this website.
Some court materials are not public even when a case search exists. G.S. 7B-3000 restricts ordinary public inspection of juvenile records, and G.S. 15A-151 limits disclosure following an expunction. Neither Portal nor a Clerk request overrides those limits.
Third-Party Search Partners
Search tools on this website may be furnished by independent providers. Information submitted to one of those tools is governed by that provider’s privacy policy, retention practices, and sharing rules. We do not control those policies. Review the provider’s terms before supplying a query. North Carolina File & Serve is an eFiling service distinct from the public Portal Case Summary search.
Links to Other Websites
The website links to Clerk, court, Portal, and other outside resources. Following one of those links takes you to a website operated under its own privacy practices. Read that operator’s policy before providing personal information there.
Advertising providers may collect activity across websites for interest-based advertising. Any such collection is performed through their systems, not Davidson County Court Docket’s systems.

- Search providers that process a query submitted through this website
- Analytics providers used to measure traffic and technical performance

How We Protect Your Data
We use reasonable security measures intended to protect information we collect. Internet systems cannot be made entirely risk-free, however, and no security measure can guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If we learn that a minor has provided personal data, we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
North Carolina public-records law, including G.S. 132-1 and G.S. 132-6.2, concerns government-held public records and copying access. It does not convert this private website into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may still:
- Request a copy of personal information we retain about you
- Ask that inaccurate retained information be corrected
- Request deletion of personal information where appropriate
- Ask to opt out of certain data-processing activities
