Two courthouses serve Davidson County, the main building in Lexington and a branch in Thomasville, but one Clerk of Superior Court owns the filing system behind both. Ask that office first. Felony files, misdemeanors, lawsuits, family cases, estates, and small claims all sit in the same set of records, and the statewide online search reads those records from anywhere with a name or case number. A hearing time is a different question; answer it with the state's posted civil and criminal calendars or the online hearing lookup. For certified copies or Davidson County court docket entries too old for the electronic era, go to the clerk's counter.

Davidson County Court Docket Portal

The Portal separates a broad search from the case detail you need. That detail is what helps you understand a Davidson County court docket. Public search starts with Case Number or Party Name. Advanced options add location, party criteria, and business-name criteria. Category, case type, case status, and a filing-date range are also there. Search Hearings is a separate tool. It accepts case, party, business, attorney, bar-number, judicial-officer, courtroom, county, and date-range inputs. Together those fields point to a current Davidson public setting.

Court Dockets: What They Show

A Davidson County court docket is the public trail of docketable activity in a case. Portal labels its detailed view a Case Summary or Register of Actions. That view can include core case information, assignment information, parties, applicable causes of action, Case Events, dispositions, hearings, and financial information where those blocks exist. Which fields appear depends on the particular case and the public-access rules that govern it.

Read the timeline in context. A Case Event marks a dated action. A hearing names a scheduled appearance when available. A disposition records a result or status, though its legal meaning may depend on the linked event, order, or judgment. A Portal balance is not a certified financial statement. And a Portal printout is not a Clerk-certified document.

Davidson County Court Docket Numbers

Enterprise Justice case identifiers have four documented parts. These are a two-digit year, letters for case type, a six-digit sequence, and a three-digit county identifier. That pattern makes a full number the most exact Davidson County court docket search key. Don't rebuild one from a format. Copy the number from a notice, a file, or an official case record.

Portal supports limited wildcards. A case-number wildcard needs at least four characters before the asterisk. A name wildcard needs at least three surname characters plus an asterisk. It also needs at least one given-name character plus an asterisk. The advanced party-name field takes no wildcard. Clear a restrictive filter and retry a basic search. Do that before treating a thin return as a final answer.

One caution belongs here. A number's format is only a search key. It does not fix the court assignment, the current hearing, or the legal outcome of a Davidson County case.

Davidson County Courts and Their Dockets

North Carolina runs a unified General Court of Justice. No separate Davidson county or municipal trial court exists. In Davidson County, the Clerk of Superior Court maintains consolidated records for the Superior and District Court divisions. Jurisdiction, not the clerk, decides where a case belongs. The Judicial Branch court overview explains the state court structure in full.

A city address does not create a city docket. Category and assignment information show the trial division that holds the Davidson case. For the framework behind those divisions, the Judicial Branch court overview is the official source.

The unified system sends public case searching to Portal. Official case-file questions go to the Clerk of Superior Court.

Davidson County Unified Docket Custody

One Davidson County Clerk of Superior Court office keeps the records and indexes for both trial divisions. G.S. 7A-180 assigns the Clerk those consolidated record-keeping duties. That arrangement matters in several spots. A Davidson felony can carry District Court pretrial activity before Superior Court proceedings. A small-claims appeal can move into Davidson District Court. A reader may also need the paper filing behind a Portal event.

Clerk functions cover civil, criminal, estates, juvenile, special proceedings, and confidential special proceedings. The office is not a second online search portal. It is the county custodian for Davidson-filed court documents. It also supplies certified material where permitted. That keeps the online Case Summary useful without overstating it as the official record.

Court Dates and Settings in Davidson County

A Davidson County court docket and a county calendar answer different questions. For the current time and place tied to one case, Portal Search Hearings is the tool. The Case Summary Hearings section then links that setting to the broader case timeline. Davidson also posts separate civil and criminal calendars for scheduled sessions. Treat a session list as a starting point. It can change, so it should never replace an individual hearing check.

When a date matters, set the notice beside the Portal hearing result and the most recent Case Event. Do they conflict? Then call the Clerk at (336) 242-6701 or the court office handling the case. The District Court judges' office is listed at (336) 242-6711. The Superior Court judges' office sits at (336) 242-6712. A closure, continuance, or updated calendar can leave an older paper notice behind the current setting. Detailed search fields and setting terms appear on the Davidson County court schedule route.

Davidson County Docket Calendar Checks

Davidson's civil and criminal calendars cover scheduled sessions only. Search Hearings finds a current setting by case, party, business, attorney, judicial officer, courtroom, county, or date range. The Case Summary supplies the surrounding case context. Put all three together when a court date is close or an old notice clashes with what Portal reports.

Local rules add calendar detail. Under the Davidson/Davie Superior Civil Rules, motions normally need a Calendar Request unless the court calendars the matter itself. Pre-trial calendar matters run ten to fifteen minutes apart. The Clerk distributes the pre-trial calendar at least three weeks before the pre-trial week. Final Court Calendars and later addenda can still shift a session schedule. The Davidson County judicial page gathers the local court and calendar channels in one official spot.

Start with the official Davidson criminal calendar. For any criminal session, verify the particular case through Search Hearings or a call to the court office before relying on the session list alone.

Docket Access Under North Carolina Law

Public access starts with the Clerk's record duty. G.S. 7A-109 requires each clerk to maintain dockets, records, files, and indexes and to make them open for public inspection during regular hours unless another law restricts access. The statute is a duty, not a promise that everything sits online. Portal adds a practical public layer on top of that duty. For a Davidson case, the Clerk keeps the official file.

Key Rules:

G.S. 7A-109 requires clerk-maintained docket and file records and provides the public-inspection baseline.

G.S. 7A-180 supports the Clerk's consolidated Superior and District Court record system.

G.S. 132-1 defines North Carolina public records as property of the people.

G.S. 132-6.2 addresses public-record access and copy charges.

Need an order, judgment, docket sheet, or filed document? Give the Clerk the case number and say whether a plain or certified copy is required. The Clerk posts no Davidson-specific certification price. Confirm the amount before you pay.

Davidson County Docket Access Limits

A blank or confidential Portal result is not a search error. Sealed records, sensitive documents, and certain protected case types stay out of view. Ordinary public users cannot see them. Free Portal registration saves public cases but grants no elevated access. A sealing order still controls. No visit to the Clerk's office overrides a sealing order. Nor does it override a statute that limits inspection.

Juvenile records are generally withheld from public inspection under G.S. 7B-3000. G.S. 15A-151 restricts disclosure of expunction records. Even adult public cases can carry nonpublic documents or fields. Anyone with legal authority has a better route. Use the proper Clerk or court process rather than hunting restricted material through a routine public search.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

The Davidson Clerk of Superior Court keeps the consolidated trial-division indexes and the documents in each court file. Public Portal searching is free. An official Davidson record follows a different path. The Clerk handles permitted file inspection, copies, and certification. Self-service terminals in a Davidson clerk office search criminal records by defendant, case number, victim, or witness name. Those terminals also open civil, estate, and special-proceeding records as allowed.

Use Portal first to identify the case. Pin down the exact case, document, or event there, then go to the Clerk for a paper document, a missing image, a certified order, or a file that predates the 2025 conversion. Transcripts come from the court reporter or transcriptionist instead. AOC-G-114 is a separate request for qualifying nonconfidential District Court audio.

Davidson County Court Docket Transition

October 13, 2025 changed docket access in Davidson County. Davidson's Track 10 conversion moved current public index and case-search work from the legacy VCAP, ACIS, and CIPRS systems to eCourts Portal. The Clerk did not lose the official case file. Paper documents already in a file at go-live stay available through the local office.

That split matters in practice. A current case may show a Portal Case Summary while an older filing never went online. Search the case first. Then ask the Clerk about the paper file or a certified document. Attorneys file through File & Serve. Self-represented people may still use paper filing where permitted. The official Davidson eCourts go-live announcement documents the rollout.

The public Case Statistics Dashboard shows court-system context. It cannot locate one Davidson County court docket. Filters cover filings, dispositions, pending matters, case types, court types, county, district, and fiscal year. Its Overview, Criminal, Civil, and Compare views reveal broad local trends without replacing a case-specific Portal record.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Davidson County

High Point, Thomasville, Lexington, Midway, and Wallburg all route into the Davidson state-court system. That covers a traffic, criminal, or civil case filed there. None of these towns runs its own separate criminal or civil docket. High Point sits in more than one county. So on a state citation, the county of the incident decides which court handles it. A city may keep its own parking or ordinance records through a municipal channel. Those can be useful. They do not replace the underlying Davidson court file. When in doubt, work from the case number and the county where it was filed.

High Point Court Records

118,601 citywide estimate. Check the citation's county before treating a High Point state case as Davidson.

Thomasville Court Records

27,605 estimate. The Thomasville Branch is a local state-court access point, not a city court.

Lexington Court Records

Midway Court Records

5,053 estimate. Midway cases use Davidson's Portal and Clerk route.

Wallburg Court Records

3,218 estimate. Wallburg is served by the unified Davidson court-record system.

Davidson County Court Docket History

Davidson's 1858 courthouse at 2 S. Main Street in Lexington still stands. Today it holds the Davidson County Historical Museum. It is a fine stop for historical research. It is not the counter where you pull a current Davidson County court docket or a certified court record. For that, go to the active courthouse and Clerk at 110 W. Center Street. A later addition added room for the Clerk, courtrooms, and judicial offices.

The split is practical. Older Davidson records can take real historical legwork. The live court file moves through the Davidson Clerk. The 2025 Portal conversion gave searchers a public digital index for newer cases. It did not make the museum or any legacy system a live source of court records. The Davidson County Historical Museum covers the old courthouse's role today.

Davidson County Federal Docket Searches

Federal cases never appear in a Davidson County court docket in Portal. Davidson County sits in the federal Middle District of North Carolina. Federal district cases run through PACER. Davidson bankruptcy matters go to the Middle District Bankruptcy court. The Davidson Clerk does not hold any of those federal dockets.

Map and Directions to the Davidson County Courthouse

Davidson's Superior and District Court files, including civil, criminal, estates, juvenile, and special-proceedings records, are kept by the Clerk of Superior Court at the Davidson County Courthouse in downtown Lexington. The building also houses the Superior and District Court judges' offices and the criminal and civil magistrates. A second state-court access point, the Thomasville Branch, uses the same unified Clerk filing system for Thomasville-area matters.
